Sewage damage needs to be quickly cleaned to avoid the potential problems of spreading germs and airborne contaminants. Sewage waste can create diseases and should be treated with the highest priority.
When sewage is involved the number one priority is safety for the workers and occupants of the building.
First Restoration Services always follows a standard of care written by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration, Certification) all of which is ANSI (Approved American National Standard) approved.
Once the initial inspection is complete and the source of the damage is found the following steps in sewage mitigation would include but not be limited to:
- Follow standard of care IICRC (S500)
- Control spread of contaminants including setting up containment barriers

- Control possible secondary damage
- Removal of sewage
- Removal of unsalvageable building material directly affected by sewage
- All affected areas will be treated with registered EPA anti-microbial agent
- Bring all affected areas back to their dry standard in the most efficient and economical way
- Third party test from indoor environmental professional to verify affected areas are no longer contaminated
During any emergency response First Restoration Services will be performing comprehensive documentation through all steps/phases of the emergency work. Documentation consist of, but is not limited to: photo documentation, moisture readings, inventory of damaged personal property.
